Proceeds
from this year’s DBMB will be used to establish a music scholarship at Austin High School
as music has played a vital role in the Bissen family.
The
scholarship fund is currently at $4,500. When it totals $10,000, we will establish an endowed music scholarship at Austin
High School. The first $1,000 annual scholarship will be dispersed in the spring of 2011.
It
was through music that Margo met Dan in 1980, when she was the organist and he was the cutest tenor in Queen of Angels church
choir. Margo, Dan and Meigan were part of the music ministry at Queens
for many years. Dan and Margo were privileged to sing at many community events, concerts,
weddings, funerals, and family celebrations. And of course, over the years
we continued to add to the Bissen Family Singers!
Our
children have been blessed with the best music teachers in the world...right here in Austin!
And
Margo has taught music in almost every school in Austin.
But
perhaps the main inspiration for this scholarship comes from the original Bissen Bash, held in honor of Dan and orchestrated
by the music department of Austin Public
Schools. The music staff, along with colleagues from
Sumner, Woodson, Ellis and many Austin Area musicians gifted our family with a most uplifting, loving and compassionate concert
on a cold day in January, 2006. Memories of this event compel us to continue
the concert as a memorial to Dan and a tribute to music ~ and in the process we are drawn closer to God and all the Heavenly
Hosts!
We
welcome you to be a part of this scholarship endeavor. All donations are tax
deductible and can be given in memory or in honor of a loved one, an event, in gratitude for the gift of music, in appreciation
for music education in our community...the possibilities are endless!
Please
make donations payable to DBMB Scholarship Fund and send them to:
